Terms of service
Last updated October 23, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and CopyMyBooks ("we", "us") for using CopyMyBooks at copymybooks.com. By creating an account, you agree to them. If you use CopyMyBooks for a business, you agree on its behalf and confirm you're allowed to.
1. The service
CopyMyBooks reads a QuickBooks Online company and copies it into a QuickBooks sandbox (a test company), for building and testing software, or for trying changes to the books before making them in the real company. It only ever reads the real company. Before every copy, it clears the chosen sandbox: everything in that sandbox is removed first.
CopyMyBooks is not affiliated with or endorsed by Intuit. QuickBooks is a trademark of Intuit Inc.
2. Accounts
- Developers sign in with Google, GitHub or Intuit, and must be at least 18.
- You're responsible for activity in your account and for keeping your sign-in secure.
- Tell us promptly through our contact form if you think your account has been misused.
3. Permission to copy a company
A company is read only after someone who can approve for it (a QuickBooks admin of that company) approves through a CopyMyBooks link, and only with the protections they choose.
- Developers: you must only ask for access to companies whose owner agrees to you copying their data for testing. Use the copies only for developing and testing software, or for trying changes to the books before making them in the real company. Don't try to undo the protections the owner chose, or re-identify disguised people.
- Company owners: by approving, you allow CopyMyBooks to read your company and copy it into the developer's sandboxes, with your protections, until you stop access in QuickBooks (Apps, then My apps). The developer is responsible for how they use the copies.
4. Your sandboxes
You choose which of your sandboxes a copy goes into, and confirm it by typing its name. Clearing a sandbox can't be undone. Some records QuickBooks protects can't be removed, and the result lists them. Sandboxes and their contents are yours and are governed by your agreement with Intuit.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use CopyMyBooks to break the law or anyone's rights, including privacy laws and Intuit's terms; to access companies without permission; to overload, probe or get around its limits and protections; or to resell access to it.
6. Data
How we handle data is in our privacy policy. In short: real companies are only read, their books are kept encrypted for at most 24 hours (database backups expire on their own later), and we don't sell data. The records in a copy remain the company owner's. We claim no ownership of them.
7. Fees
CopyMyBooks is currently free. If we start charging for anything, we'll tell account holders in advance, and you can choose whether to continue.
8. Changes and availability
We may change or stop features, and we'll tell account holders in advance about significant changes where we reasonably can. The service may sometimes be unavailable, including when QuickBooks is.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using CopyMyBooks at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or to protect a company owner's data. When an account closes, stored books are deleted on the usual schedule.
10. Not professional advice
CopyMyBooks is a software testing tool. Nothing it shows, including copies, summaries and report comparisons, is accounting, tax, legal or financial advice, and a copy is not a backup of the real company or a record to rely on for those purposes.
11. Other services
CopyMyBooks relies on services we don't control, including QuickBooks Online and the sign-in providers. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we aren't responsible for them, for changes they make, or for their being unavailable.
12. No warranty
CopyMyBooks is provided "as is" and "as available". We work to make copies complete and accurate, and every copy reports what it couldn't copy and is checked against the real company. But to the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that it is merchantable, fit for a particular purpose, or non-infringing, and we don't promise a copy will be complete, accurate or error-free, or that the service will be uninterrupted or secure.
13. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses, or for lost profits, revenue, business or data, including data in a sandbox you chose to clear, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for all claims about CopyMyBooks is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$100. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they apply to you only as far as your law allows.
14. Indemnity
You'll defend and indemnify CopyMyBooks against claims, losses and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms, from copying a company without its owner's permission, from your use of a copy, or from your breaking any law or anyone's rights.
15. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date above and email account holders about important changes before they take effect. Continuing to use CopyMyBooks after a change means you accept it.
16. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute about CopyMyBooks or these terms will be heard only in the state or federal courts located in Illinois, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. To the extent the law allows, claims may be brought only individually, not as part of a class or representative action, and must be brought within one year of when they arose.
17. General
These terms and our privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about CopyMyBooks. If a part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a part isn't a waiver of it. You can't transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a sale or reorganization of the business. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control. The sections on data, no warranty, limit of liability, indemnity and governing law continue after your use ends.
